Shopper's Legs

While wandering through the store yesterday with my son, Jordan, I came across a friend of mine sitting on one of the display tables.  The shopping cart next to her was getting full as her three kids continued to drop off the items they wanted to buy.

Suddenly aware of my own throbbing feet, I secretly envied her. As we chatted, she mentioned that after shopping awhile she just had to sit down. She had shopper’s legs.

We determined that the act of milling around aimlessly through the stores, standing here and then there as our kiddos shopped was actually more strenuous on our legs than taking a brisk walk. Wandering aimlessly seemed to take more of a toll than walking toward a goal.

I bet that’s how the Israelites felt. They spent forty years aimlessly wandering through the desert. Not only had they lost sight of the end goal, most of them lost their faith in the process. The difference between the pain the Israelites were feeling and the pain my friend and I shared was that our journey at least resulted in a collection of back to school clothes. They had nothing to show for their wandering.

Have you ever felt that way? Have you ever grown weary of wandering? Do you feel achy and sore from the battles of life? Have you lost sight of the goal? Then I have some good news for you. You don’t have to suffer from shopper’s legs. God has something completely different in mind for you. Instead of walking around trying to find things yourself, He wants you to rest at His feet. When you spend time in His presence, He will direct your path. No more shopper’s legs for you!

We are all on a journey with God, some of us just know when to sit down and be still. Thanks for the reminder, sweet friend!

Be blessed,

“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:30-31
