Mental Health Day

I hope this doesn’t make you uncomfortable, but I’m writing to you in my jammies. In fact, I have every intention of staying in my jammies until later this afternoon when I’ll shower, dress and rejoin the human race. Until then, I’m taking a mental health day.

The last few weeks have been really busy. In my circles alone there have been kids going to college, Kindergarteners’ first day of school, a birth, a death, two book signings, a few friends who needed a shoulder to cry on, a road trip and a new Bible study semester starting up. Whew! I’m tired just thinking about it all!

The thing is, every milestone moment is precious. They mark time while causing us to pause and reflect on our life. But what about all the other little moments? Carpool? Laundry and house work? Corporate meetings? Do any of those encourage us to slow down and ponder life? Unfortunately not. So that’s why every so often we need to clear our schedule for a mental health day.

Now, I would be misleading you if I let you think I plan to spend the entire day considering the meaning of life. I don’t. I do plan, however, to embrace a few things I love about my life but don’t indulge in very often—like not having to wear makeup, singing praise and worship songs at the top of my lungs because there’s no one here to be bothered by it, and finally, staying in my jammies!

My favorite day is jammie day and I try to have them often :)
