One decision away...

What comes to mind when you think of hell? A cartoon red horned devil running around with a pitchfork and a tail? Or perhaps an evangelical preacher thumping on the Bible as he warns about the flames of hellfire licking at your feet? Or maybe just a dark void of nothingness that you prefer not to think about.

The truth is we are all one decision away from an eternity in hell. So does that mean if you cheat on your taxes or cut someone off in traffic that you’re heading to hell? What about telling a lie even if you’re trying to spare someone’s feeling? Oh, oh… and what about not telling the cashier when she gives you too much change back? (Are you hearing the ‘Highway to Hell’ song playing in the back of your mind?? I am.)

Of course the answer to all of these questions is ‘no’ because none of these are the ONE decision that we need to make to avoid hell. Point blank – the ONLY way to avoid going to hell is to confess that Jesus Christ died for your sin. The decision is to accept what has already been done.

You might be thinking ‘I’ve already accepted Jesus’ death for my sins so I’m covered’ but let’s think about the people in our lives that may not have made that decision yet. The people who are still thinking that if they are a good person or do good things, that will be enough. They’re the ones on my heart right now!

Is God laying someone on your heart that may not have accepted what Jesus died to give them? Are you nervous about having a conversation with them about it? Ask God to give you the words that are tailor-made for them. It’s the most important conversation they’ll ever have…

Be blessed,
Jennifer

“I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.” Luke 12:4-5
